Please enjoy this little slide show of Tatiana’s baptism which was on Saturday evening 2/27/10 and her first communion which she partook on the following Sunday morning at our parish St. Barnabas Antiochian Orthodox Church in Costa Mesa.  It was such a blessed service. My children enjoyed it. We chose our sweet friends Chance and Cybil to be  her God parents.  I am so thankful for our church.
Oh and we also had my super dear friend Heather there also having her baby baptised as well. We also had our baby shower together:)

I was able to make her gown and finished it the day of her baptism, phew… talk about procrastination… or is it a busy mom of 4  :) Here is her gown and bonnet.. I had so much fun making it and adding all the different embellishments.  Isn’t she adorable?!!

Ashers fall

So I was originally going to video record Tatiana cooing, and as Asher was climbing up my really tall bed I diverted my video recorder in his direction instead.  Who knew I was going to catch this. Let me tell… it has added so much laughter as Asher wants to watch it over and over again laughing his little booty off!!

You may ask why I didn’t jump to help him right away. I knew he wasn’t hurt too badly and how often do you capture stuff like this on film…or should I say digital…. yes, this may have been a bad parenting choice  :/

This really bums me out. I won’t rant about this.. just watch it.

Asher’s 3rd Bday

Yikes!! Can it really be?  Can my 3rd youngest boy really be the big 3? Early this month Asher turned 3 and it is pretty darn incredible the difference from 2 to 3.  Seriously.  I don’t know if its because there is a new little one in the house that makes him seem so much more grown up or if there has been a serious change.  Perhaps both.  I love the conversations we have now.  Instead of babbling his own language that only his brothers can translate, he talks in words I can understand. I love it.  We had a little gathering of some close adult family friends and just a few God-family relatives to celebrate the occasion.  Nothing fancy.  Nothing crazy.  Simple gathering with sweet fellowship. Wish we could have invited more but space just doesn’t allow  :(   We had some delicious cupcakes from my dear friend Sarah at  Cupcake Blake to top off the gathering.  So Yummy. Happy Birthday Asher ~*~

I love avocado…

So it was one of those nights where we had not a whole l0t of options for dinner.  Money is REALLY tight right now.  We had about a bagillion avocados because they are one of my all time faves, and thanks to Henry’s double ad Wednesdays sale this week their organic avocados were seriously inexpensive :) I no doubt can eat them allllll day.  We didn’t have too many ingredients to make a meal and with it being Lent right now I really had to think hard on what I was going to make for dinner.  I was really stoked to revisit one of our favorite meals that I haven’t made in quite some time….. Black bean and avocado tacos…. so simple… so yummy…

note:

Avocados are so good for you.  Unfortunately we have seen such a  perverse mindset on fat in all the latest diet craves that avocados got somehow lumped in to the naughty list.  There is good fat and bad fat and it is important to distinguish the two and make sure we do indeed get that good fat in our diet.

Here and Here are just a couple of links that talk about avocados goodness.

Here is just a few of the great benefits of avocados:

  1. It protects cholesterol related heart diseases. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
  2. It is used both in prevention and treatment of prostate and breast cancers. Scientists have proved that a toxin in avocado kills the cancer cells. So-called toxin has a great effect on the tissues, particularly heart muscle tissues.
  3. Avocado includes necessary minerals like potassium, calcium, vitamin C and K, folic acid, copper, sodium and dietary fibers. These are used to provide the mineral necessity of the body. People who live in hot climates have great mineral and water loss. So, avocado is suggested strongly by the medicals.
  4. Oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat, in avocado can be used to lower cholesterol level in the blood.
  5. Potassium in avocado regulates pressure of blood.
  6. Sodium reduces the risk of high blood pressure and stoke.
  7. It improves the ability of the body to absorb carotenoids.
  8. Avocado is used to help people who have sexual problems.
  9. It is a good antioxidant.
  10. It can be used in the treatment of skin disorders.
  11. It is used to heal people who suffer from digestive and circulatory problems.
  12. It has all the essential amino acids.
  13. IT HAS NO CHOLESTEROL!

A.D.D.

I struggle… Do you struggle?  I struggle in many areas.  My main struggle these days is my A.D.D….. Yeah Yeah.. I know.. Everyone has A.D.D.  But I really DO have A.D.D…. Not A.D.H.D.  (the hyperactive one)  but the one where my brain doesn’t stop.. I think of a million things a minute.. Don’t get me wrong… I don’t suffer with A.D.D. because I believe it is a gift.  Being an artist/crafter makes my A.D.D. helpful because I have ideas flowin like crazy..However, I struggle because I have a hard time concentrating..  even on the ones I love. I don’t believe medicine is the answer for me.. For me it’s a simple matter of discipline and self control… For instance when you are talkin to me, you deserve my attention, do you not?  For me to wander off in my mind is myself not practicing self control.  I need to stop.. focus.. control my thoughts.. its hard.. very, very, very hard.. Something that I don’t think will ever become easy.. but I need the discipline… I think we can use this in many areas of our lives, self control and discipline that is, but its hard.. It’s an everyday work… Please pray for me… I want to give my all to God while i pray.. to my family while i love, to my friends while we play…

I thought id share these humorous, informative and encouraging video links..

My goodness! Who knew that such a storm was coming my way…Yowza! Let me back track…. Friday morning when I woke up, there was rain, coughs coming from each of my child’s mouths and I with an ear infection that I saw coming the night before. Now this is only my second ear infection ever…Well perhaps I got them as a baby or a child but I don’t remember. I found it rather inconvenient since Fridays are our busiest days. Well busy as in we are gone pretty much alllll day. We have a classical conversations style co-op that we do early in the morning,(check it out… pretty amazing, www.classicalconversations.com) then we rush over to our weekly home school group meeting with our ISP, Aslan Academy, then we have our chiropractic appointment… now all this tied in with diaper changes, nursing the wee one, “I’m hungry”, “I’m thirsty”, etc…… Well I decided to play hookie since my ear was hurting so bad.. I did however have to go to my early morning co-op because we had a mandatory meeting.  Sooooo…. I had taken some garlic oil drops for my ear which worked amazing with my last ear infection but for some reason it wasn’t working to well this time around. So I came home after the meeting and put Asher to nap and just snuggled up with a blanket on the couch and took a nap with Tatiana. Wow.. I could take naps EVERYDAY if time allowed.  I started to feel a little better but not good enough, however life had to go on so I got up to start dinner while Asher helped with dishes… His favorite chore..

while i was making dinner..Tabbouleh Wraps…YUM!! We wrapped them up in tortillas because we only had red leaf lettuce instead of romaine lettuce so it wasn’t sturdy enough to hold the tabbouleh . Heres the recipe..

1 head romaine lettuce

1 cup medium or fine bulgur (a whole grain, found at a health food store)

2 cups water

2 cucumbers, finely chopped

1 large red onion, finely chopped

1/2 cup mints leaves finely chopped

1 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

1/2 cup fresh dill, finely chopped

6 large roma tomatoes, finely chopped

2 stalks celery, finely chopped

1/2 tsp. ground allspice

1/2 tsp. sea salt

1/2 tsp. freshly ground pepper

1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes

1/2 tsp. dried kelp

6 oz. tub of feta cheese, crumbled

1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

1/2 cup  fresh lemon juice

In the morning, bring water to a boil in a saucepan, add bulgur, turn off heat, and cover with tight-fitting lid Put pan in oven preheatged to 350 and turned off, Let sit (in order to steam) all day. (Alternatively, bring water to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer on low for 30mins.)

Shake lemon juice, oil, and seasonings together in a pint jar. Add all other ingredients to bulgur and toss. Toss in lemon juice/olive oil mixture. Scoop mixture into romaine lettuce leaves to serve.

That night Turbo put some hydrogen peroxide mixed with just a couple drops of water in my ear and I woke up this morning with a pain free ear!! If you don’t know much about hydrogen peroxide, then just check out this article

Bleach vs. Peroxide

I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little ole bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. What does bleach cost?

Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40′s? It’s chlorine, Folks! And it was used to kill our troops. Peroxide was invented during WWI in the 20′s. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals. Please think about this.

1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash.

2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.

3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.

4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.

5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.

6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide.

7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.

8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.

9 If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.

10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through You will not have the peroxide-burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, reddish, or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually, so it’s not a drastic change.

11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.

12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.

13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is why I love it so much for this.

Well that was great until later on that day…YIKES!! I came down with a severely POUNDING headache. I’m talking about that feeling like a hammer is striking your head..yah.. that bad.. I was walking around moaning and crying in pain just hoping someone would call and ask me if they can take the pain away. No such thing happened ;) And then what came next, yep, puking. NO FUN! Well I would have to say that PRAISE GOD for movies, chicken dinos and a relatively responsible 8yr old to look after Judah and Asher while Tatiana and I slept off and on in the dark bedroom. I was so lucky too that Turbo was able to get off work early as well because at that point I was able to really sleep off the pain. My sweet little boys were doing everything to help…offering to bring water, eating whatever we had available for them to reach with out complaint of still being hungry. Now if you have boys you know they like to EAT. At least mine do. They are hungry every 5 minutes it feels like. Well they pretty much ate a whole loaf a bread, lots of bananas and some granola bars before I was able to get up and get that stash of Chicken dinos in the freezer that I bought specifically for a day like this. Oh my poor kids. Well its a new day and I feel great aside of the sore tummy and head. Ready to start a new week.
